Galesburg Erskane ?Bang? Banghart died Friday afternoon, October 19, 2007, in Galesburg, MI. He was born September 24, 1920, in Sterling, MI, a son of Olin and Ethel Kerr Banghart and had lived in the Galesburg area for most of his life. During World War II, he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Bang was a hard-working, ambitious man. He founded the Banghart Excavating Company, co-developed the Gale Valley Estates Mobile Home Park with Ray Adams and Les Carpenter and was a partner in a charter fishing boat operation. Bang was involved with the Galesburg community as a member of the Galesburg Rotary and Galesburg Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Gull Lake Snowmobile Club and the Kalamazoo Power Squadron and enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting and fishing. Bang was also an avid reader and devoted amateur photographer who loved dancing and travel and played a mean game of Pitch. Bang loved his family and friends and enjoyed life. Bang was preceded in death by: his parents; a daughter, Paula Howk; a son-in-law, Boris Ezbenko; a brother, Orlin Banghart and a sister, Verna Allison. On June 11, 1941, Bang was united in marriage with the former Arlene Vermeulen, who survives. Also surviving are: two daughters, Diana Kay Ernest Kracker of Climax and Allison Ezbenko of Galesburg; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Vonda Cox of Galesburg; three brothers, Alex Eleanor Banghart of Lennon, Dallas Banghart of Swartz Creek and Dale Leslie Banghart of Galesburg; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held 2:00 Tuesday afternoon at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Galesburg Chapel, 145 W. Battle Creek St., with Pastor Don Wendell of Bloomingdale United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery will follow services. Visitation will be held Monday today from 2-6pm at the funeral home.
