SCHEWE, Emily Grace
Of Kalamazoo Emily went home to be with her Jesus on Saturday morning, December 15, 2012 at home. The daughter of the late Seth and Pearl Briggs Swinehart, she was born January 5, 1921 in Kalamazoo and grew up in Portage. Emily was united in marriage to Walter E. Schewe on August 6, 1942 in Colorado Springs, CO. She was employed as a LPN in Bronson Hospital's Labor and Delivery Unit for many years until her retirement in 1983. Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Walt Schewe; three children, Michael Susan Schewe of Comstock, Nancy Tom Ruckstaetter of Richland and Patrick Carol Schewe of Oshtemo; daughter-in-law, Cathy Schewe; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Peggy Swinehart; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Don & Diana Aber and Al & Jan Atanay. Preceding her in death were one son, Jeffrey Schewe; her parents; five brothers and four sisters. A service celebrating Emily's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with Rev. David Bruininks officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
