GEISSEL, Emil A., Jr.
Of Kalamazoo Emil was born July 5, 1920, in South Bend, Indiana, the son of the late Emil A. and Esther Schulz Geissel, Sr. and passed away May 5, 2011, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and during World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from 1942-44. For 30 years he was employed as an A/C Refrigeration Engineer with The Upjohn Company. Emil was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church and was currently a longtime member of St. Michael Lutheran Church and he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, traveling and fishing. On March 3, 1945, he was united in marriage to the former Nola R. Masten. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Nola Geissel; three children, Laura Richard Garnaat of Lawton, MI, Lester Connie Geissel of Mason, MI, and Diana Joe Chase of Galien, MI; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Stermer and Thelma Lamphear; a brother, George M. Roberta Geissel; nieces and nephews. Emil was preceded in death by a son Thomas Geissel; by sisters, Marie Dowd and Lois Rey. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4 to 7 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. and at the church on Monday from 10 to 11 AM. The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday at St. Michael Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
