SLATER, Emerson S.
Of Kalamazoo Emerson passed away Monday morning, March 2, 2009 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. He was born March 7, 1934 in Kalamazoo, the son of Steven and Hazel Bozenbark Slater. Emerson was a veteran of the United States Army. He was employed by General Motors Corp. until his retirement. Emerson was a member of Kalamazoo First Assembly of God where he was a greeter and usher; and also volunteered at the Dream Center in Kalamazoo. Most importantly, Emerson loved and was very involved with his family. On January 12, 1963, he was united in marriage to Donna Meyers. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Donna Slater; 7 children, Debbie James Williamson of Kalamazoo, Chris Connie Slater of Kalamazoo, Tammy Slater of Parchment, Julie Brad Eshbaugh of Otsego, Dan Sara Slater of Lavon, TX, Greg Lori Slater of Portage, and Kristy Norbert Wirsch of OK; 16 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Mildred Stan Brower of Gobles; and several nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Preceding him in death were his parents; 1 sister, Pearl Koyl; and 1 brother, Roger Bozenbark. Funeral services for Emerson will be at 11:00 AM on Friday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to the Dream Center.
