Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away April 17, 2009 at Park Place Assisted Living Center. Elsie was born February 20, 1916 in East Decatur, MI, a daughter of Hans and Kristine Rasmussen Christensen and had lived in the Kalamazoo area in recent years. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for several years in the Payroll Department for the City of Kalamazoo. Elsie was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation. She was preceded in death by her husband Jacob, a son Dennis van't Zelfde, a son-in-law Roger Locke and by 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Surviving are 3 daughters, Christine Locke of Cassopolis, Anna Jack Stryd and Linda Paul DeVries, all of Kalamazoo; a daughter-in-law, Jackie van't Zelfde of Kalamazoo; 7 grandchildren, Gary & Jeff Locke, Scott & Tim van't Zelfde, Kristi Cummins, Karen Rozeboom and Erik DeVries; 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; a sister Louise Morris of Benton Harbor; several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. with the Rev. JoHan Zippro officiating. Interment in Mt. Ever-Rest North Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 4pm to 8pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Elsie's memory may be made to the Providence Christian School or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert LeFevre, Shari, Alex and Canary from Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan and the staff of Park Place Assisted Living for their dedication and care.
