BAECHLE, Elmer J. Of Kalamazoo Passed away Friday morning March 30, 2007. Elmer was born May 20, 1923 in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, the son of Joseph and Julitta Grass Baechle. During WW II he served in the Pacific with the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from the Air National Guard as Chief Master Sgt. after serving more than 17 years. He was a Kalamazoo area resident the past 61 years and for over 40 years he worked as a self employed carpenter. Elmer was an avid baseball and football fan, loved dogs, but the most important part of his life was his family. On August 18, 1945 he married the former Pauline Muller of Kalamazoo. Surviving are his wife, Pauline; his children, Kenneth C. Baechle of Atlanta, GA, Cheryl K. Baechle of DeMoines, WA, Alan R. Baechle of Grand Rapids, MI, Gary B. Baechle of Maui, HI; brothers and sisters, Loretta Ray Thomas, Wilma Gene Nations, Emerita Bob Bergtholdt, Vincent Mary Baechle, Joseph Ruth Baechle. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Lorraine Jenrette and Rosella Kellner. There will be no visitation and a private family graveside service will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials in Elmer?s memory may be directed to the Kalamazoo Humane Society.
