Ellen Irene Whitcomb

WHITCOMB, Ellen Irene
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012. She was born February 17, 1938 in Allegan County, the daughter of Harold and Emma Coffey Moored and lived in the Kalamazoo area for many years. Ellen graduated from Western Michigan University, was a teacher in the public school system and was a long time member of the Westwood United Methodist Church. On December 23, 1961, she married Ronald R. Whitcomb, who preceded her in death on September 5, 2008. She was also preceded by her parents and a cousin, Alice Creech. Ellen is survived by her children, Clinton Jean Whitcomb of Kalamazoo, Lynn Whitcomb of Chicago and Shepherd Kristin Whitcomb of Ann Arbor; 5 grandchildren; two brothers, Sherman Carol Moored and Sherwin Cathy Moored; a sister, Ruth Gardner; two cousins, John Shirley Moored and Bernard Elizabeth Moored; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:00 PM in the Westwood United Methodist Church, 538 Nichols Road, with Rev. Dr. Wayne Price, officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel 622 S. Burdick St., on Saturday from 5-8 PM and at the church on Sunday, beginning at 1:00 PM until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Westwood United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
