of Richland, MI Died Sunday morning September 18, 2011 at her residence. Ella was born January 3, 1916 in Onaway, Michigan a daughter of Chester and Ethel McQuade Stewart. Ella had a successful career in the fashion industry, initially working as an instructor and model for Singer Sewing Machines. She received formal training as a tailor and taught adult education for many years while raising her family in Royal Oak, MI. In 1970 she launched her own small business, Sew Quick and Easy, and was a pioneer in teaching knit clothing construction. She retired and moved to the Kalamazoo area in 1996. Ella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George L. Hafferkamp in 1988; a brother Sterling V. Stewart, a sister, Loretta Hemkes; and an infant sister, Kay Frances. She is survived by 4 children, Ross Carla Hafferkamp of Newberry, MI, Giles Rebecca Hafferkamp of Fortine, MT, Fay Munzinger of Oak Park, MI, and Gail Richard R. Venner of Traverse City; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Viva Matheson of Grand Rapids and Carmel Mullen of California; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Private services and burial will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements were made by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St.
