FREDERICK, Elizabeth Bilderback
of Harrisburg, PA Elizabeth Bilderback Frederick of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, passed away in Kalamazoo, MI, on October 17, 2011. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on October 1, 1927, one of two children to Ervin G. Bilderback and Elizabeth Speer Bilderback. Elizabeth graduated from Bronxville High School in New York and received a Bachelor's degree in theater arts from Chatham College on June 6, 1949. She was married to the late Harold Renton Frederick Jr. on September 9, 1950.
Elizabeth taught English, speech and drama at The Harrisburg Academy in Wormlysburg, PA, from September 1969 through June 1999. During her years there she was highly regarded as a gifted teacher who brought compassion and understanding to her classroom and directed a theatre program filled with creative energy and mirth. She firmly believed in the value and importance of education and in its pursuit over the course of a lifetime. She earned her Master's degree in Humanities from Penn State University in June of 1988. After she retired from teaching, Elizabeth remained committed to helping educate children by working as a volunteer at the Whitaker Center in downtown Harrisburg. Elizabeth was devoted to her family, students, and friends. She will be forever cherished and remembered. Her love for her family was unconditional, her warmth and kindness toward her friends was steadfast, her generosity and commitment to her students was beyond reproach, and her capacity always to find the goodness in those fortunate enough to have known her was without bounds.
She is survived by her sons, H. Renton of Chelmsford, MA, Alexander Speer of Washington, DC, Ervin Bilderback of Winnetka, IL; her daughter, Elizabeth F. Edgerton of Kalamazoo, MI; and her grandchildren, Michael, Emily, Joseph, Will, Lily, Emily and Julianna. A memorial service will be held at Peace Church in Camp Hill, PA, on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 1:00 pm. A reception will follow. All arrangements are being handled by Langeland Family Funeral Homes of Kalamazoo, MI, 269 343-1508. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Elizabeth's name to the Harrisburg Academy, 10 Erford Road, Wormleysburg, PA, 17043.
