ANNEN, ELIZABETH A.
of Scotts, Michigan Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Sanford Annen passed away April 18, 2012 at Rose Arbor in Kalamazoo. Betty was born December 3, 1928, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of B. Ward and Christine Britton Sanford. A lifelong area resident, she graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and retired from Kalamazoo Radiology. Aside from volunteering for the many activities in which her family was involved, Betty loved to watch her children and grandchildren participating in their various sports. One of her greatest joys was her gardens. In the winter she planned what and where to plant, then in the spring and summer, if you were looking for Betty, you usually found her tending her plants. She was famous in her neighborhood for her lovely gardens and often shared those plants with many who asked. On October 23, 1948, she was united in marriage to Clarence "Clare" J. Annen, who survives. Betty and Clare were married for 63 years and were blessed with three daughters, Patricia Donald McNally, Linda Douglas Vroegindewey and Deborah Joseph Caruso. Also surviving are grandchildren, Scott Sarah Vroegindewey, Sara Daniel Schuemann, Jeffrey Deena Vroegindewey, Michael, Matthew, Jonathan, Jacob and Joshua Caruso, Don Amy McNally and Kimberlyn Christopher McGrail; great-grandchildren, Kenadie, Kelsie and Harper Schuemann, Brady Vroegindewey, Trace Vroegindewey, Jeremy and Colleen McNally and Cameron and Jake McGrail; brother, Fred Gail Sanford; sisters, Kay Jack Jones, Barbara Lloyd Chaddock and Carol Michael Coppens; nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Kathryn Caldwell Sanford; brother, David Sanford; sister, Marilyn Burnham and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Chaddock. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 22 from 3-7 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street where a prayer service for Betty will be held at 7:00PM Sunday. A private interment will be held in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South.
