Eleanor Lorraine Vander Meer, 87, of Schoolcraft, went to be with her Lord December 14, 2018 at her home. She was born July 23, 1931 in Kalamazoo, MI to the late Gerrit and Mary (Werkema) Vander Meer.
Eleanor was a member of Texas Corners Bible Church. She was athletic in many ways. She was an avid golfer—she even had a hole in one. She also played softball and had a .500 batting average. She enjoyed fishing with her brother, Sterry, and was known to be quite the prankster. She was a talented pianist and loved ocean cruises.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Evelyn Vander Meer, Florence (Owen) VanKalker, and Ted (Dee) Vander Meer.
She leaves behind a brother, Sterry (Lois) Vander Meer; many nieces and nephews; companion and lifelong friend, Nellie Balkema; as well as Nellie's children and extended family who lovingly adopted Eleanor as their aunt and grandma.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 19, at 11am at Texas Corners Bible Church, 7780 S 8th St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10-11am at the church. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, Tree of Life School, or Texas Corners Bible Church.
