SMITH, Edwin W.
Climax Mr. Smith passed away early Monday morning, October 22, 2007 at his home. He was born September 15, 1916 in Climax, one of three children to the late Charles and Mary Wolcott Smith. Ed was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II and earning the rank of Captain. He was employed by The Upjohn Co. until his retirement in 1980. Ed was a member of the Climax United Methodist Church. On August 10, 1940, he was united in marriage to Fern Norton in Battle Creek, who survives. Also surviving are their 3 children, William Donna Smith of Battle Creek, Robert Judy Smith of Tigard, Oregon, and Joan Kenneth Champion of Climax; 9 grandchildren, Desiree Roger Graves of Marshall, Brian Smith of Battle Creek, Tracy Rob Scherer of Climax, Wesley Lisa Smith of Portland, OR, Carmen Jacob Hall of Lake Oswego, OR, Mariah Smith of Lawrence, KS, Spencer Sara Champion of Scotts, Karissa Christopher Hansen of Scotts, and Nicole Mark Rainwater of Bellevue; 14 grandchildren; 1 brother, Ray Smith of Climax; 1 sister, Edna Farthing of Mattawan; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be at 11:00 AM on Friday at Climax United Methodist Church, 133 E. Maple Street, with Rev. David G. Knapp officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Thursday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Climax Chapel, 205 E. Maple Street. Private interment will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, Climax. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Climax United Methodist Church ?
