Edwin "Ed" Joseph Sturm

Edwin “Ed” Joseph Sturm, 70 of Scotts, MI, passed away with his loving wife by his side at Bronson Methodist Hospital on October 1, 2024. He was born in Chicago, IL, on February 19, 1954, to Edwin George and Marie Hansina (Lagoni) Sturm.

Ed graduated from Climax Scotts High School in 1973 and then worked at Lakeland Oil Refinery briefly before joining the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was initiated in the brotherhood on October 1, 1976, and spent 48 years as an electrician. His parents bought a farm in 1956, and Ed helped there throughout his life, he enjoyed being out on a tractor and the satisfaction he got from a day’s hard work.

Ed met Constance “Connie” Raifsnider in school, and they shared a love for 4-H before sharing a love for one another. The high school sweethearts were united in marriage on April 5, 1975, at the Scotts United Methodist Church where they are still active members.

Ed and Connie welcomed three sons, Edwin Michael, Gregory Joseph, and Clifford Kevin. Ed was very involved in the boys’ passion for 4-H, they enjoyed helping their dad on the farm with haying and caring for animals. Ed and Connie could always be found cheering their sons on during their football games.

Ed is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Connie, his sons Eddie, Greg (Tina), and Cliff (Liz); grandchildren Melanie, Wyatt, Mallory; and his beloved dogs Hazel and Samantha. He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Marie Sturm.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services 411 East Centre Ave. Portage, MI 49002. Friends are invited to visit the family from 11 am to 1 pm when the funeral service will begin. A procession will lead everyone by Ed and Connie’s farm before laying Ed to rest at Harrison Cemetery in Scotts.
