Edwin G. ''Ed'' Adams

ADAMS, Mr. Edwin G. ?Ed? Kalamazoo Passed away peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2007, at Bronson Hospital, with his loving family all around him. Ed was born September 6, 1921, in Clarksville, Iowa, a son of John and Enka Bos Adams. When Ed was 18 months old his father died and Ed was adopted and raised by his step-father, Charles Wolthuizen. Ed graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and attended Stanford University. He entered the United States Army in 1942 and served in New Guinea in the Asiatic Pacific Theater until the end of WWII. He returned to Kalamazoo. Ed was a member of First Reformed Church of Portage and VFW Post 1527. He retired from The Upjohn Company in 1981 after 35 years where he was the department head of grounds and maintenance. Ed adored his wife, daughters and grandchildren and his family always came first. He also enjoyed working in his yard and gardens, playing golf and bowling. He was a special man and will be missed by everyone who knew him. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 3 brothers. On March 7, 1945, he was united in marriage with the former Henrietta ?Dottie? Longjohn who survives. Also surviving are: three daughters, Gayle Fritz Kirkpatrick of Metamora, Jan Doug Kitzmiller of Kalamazoo and Marcia Zdan of Portage; 5 grandchildren, Karen Kirkpatrick, Steven Kirkpatrick, David Callner, Michelle Callner and Alison Zdan; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 10:00 Friday morning at First Reformed Church of Portage, 7905 S. Westnedge Ave., with Pastor Mike Drew and Pastor Edwin Martin, officiating. Interment will be held at 1:00 Friday afternoon at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should be in the cemetery cortege area by 12:50pm. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 6-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Memorials should be directed to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one?s choice.
