PRINCE, Edward L.
Kalamazoo Passed away Thursday, January 17, 2008. He was born October 20, 1925 in Kalamazoo, the son of Richard C. and Evelyn M. Healy Prince and was a lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area. A graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School in January of 1944, Ed was the owner and president of E.L. Prince General Contractors, life member of the Brick Layers Union, member of the Kalamazoo County Chamber of Commerce and past President of the Kalamazoo Rotary Club. Ed was also a member of the BPOE #50, past President of the Kalamazoo Shrine Club, and past Master of the Kalamazoo Anchor Lodge, # 22. He was a 50 year member of the Scottish Rite for Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, and a member of the Jesters. During WW II, he served his country as a Corporal in the 461st Bomb Group of the United States Army Air Corps and later became a private pilot. Ed loved traveling, playing golf and spending many winters in Florida. On September 28, 1946, he married the former Joyce E. Wiley and she preceded him in death on June 26, 1995. He was also preceded by his parents and a brother, Burton C. Prince. Ed is survived by his children, Cynthia Phillip Long of Richland and Victoria Prince of Kalamazoo; 3 grandchildren, Rebecca Long of Orlando, FL, Kyle Long of Charleston, SC and Alison Kevin Lovell of Grand Rapids, MI; a great grandson, Gehrig Lovell of Grand Rapids; his brother, Richard, Jr. Irma Prince of Richland; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Marion Havens of Ann Arbor, Frances LaMunion of Cary, NC, Marge Anselmo of Battle Creek and Sharon James Hightower of Claremont, CA; nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 1:00 PM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with Pastor James Dyke officiating. A private family committal service will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday beginning at 12 Noon until service time.
