JONES, Edward A.
of Portage Died on May 24, 2011 at his residence with his family by his side. Edward was born March 15, 1947 in Sulligent, AL, the son of Eartis and Ola B. Jones. He resided and worked in Portage/Kalamazoo area since 1997. Edward served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He was the owner/operator of Vision Packaging and Graphics Company in Kalamazoo for the past 15 years. He was a member of Bethany Reformed Church where he was involved in the Restore Program and was also a board member of Goodwill Industries. Edward was a family man and was devoted to his loving wife and his children. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother Robert Jones. He is survived by his best friend and soul mate, Sharon VanderSlik, to whom he was married on March 19, 1982 in Grand Rapids, MI. Also surviving are 3 children, La-Sharie Jones of Memphis, TN, Bhekani Joyce and Rudolph Calmese, both of Columbus, OH; 4 grandsons, 4 granddaughters, a great granddaughter and 2 great grandsons; 7 brothers and sisters; a special niece Cheryl Prescott of Kalamazoo; several others nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 3 pm on Saturday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with the Rev. Dr. Robert Terwilliger officiating. Friends may meet the family beginning at 2 pm on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Edward?s memory may be made to Bethany Reformed Church Memorial Fund or the Kalamazoo Humane Society.
