DE YOUNG, Edward N.
Of Kalamazoo Passed away Wednesday evening, March 18, 2009 at his residence. Ed was born November 8, 1934 the son of Demmen and Jennie Fletcher DeYoung. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1956. Prior to his retirement in 1997 he was employed with the Upjohn Company for 42 years. Ed was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed backpacking, canoeing, traveling, and all sports, especially basketball. He is survived by his former wife, Marilyn Kovach Wilson, whom he was married to from January 7, 1955 to July of 1984. Also surviving are 4 children, Kathleen Kelly, Jim Julie DeYoung, Laura Mike Donahue, Robert Lolita DeYoung; 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; a brother, William Frances DeYoung; special friends, Christine Ratke, Doug Stapert, Ron VanEyk, Dave Brussee, John Foster; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Dorothy Jarchow, Helen Mattison; and a brother, Donald DeYoung. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or services. Private family interment will be at a later date.
