ZACK, Duane Joseph
Of Portage Duane passed away Friday morning, December 7, 2007 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. He was born April 23, 1939 in North Canton, Ohio, the son of Joseph F. and F. Eleanor Mansfield Zack. Duane has been a Kalamazoo area resident since 1962. After attending Ohio State University and upon graduating from Muskingum College, he joined The Upjohn Company, first working in the control lab and later in management. He retired after 33 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Portage and the former Portage Masonic Lodge #340 F&AM. Duane was an avid bass fisherman and president of the Michigan Bass Federation in his early years. Later on he enjoyed shooting trap at the Lakes Area Conservation Club where he served as president and treasurer. He enjoyed participating in a pistol league. Duane also enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting and working on wood restoration projects, especially player pianos. Duane loved sports and was an avid Ohio State and Cleveland Browns fan, but the most important part of his life was his family. On August 27, 1961, he was united in marriage to the former Shirley E. Tidrick who survives. Also surviving are their children, Julie Scott Seward of Garland, TX, Jeffrey Zack fiancée Joan Musselwhite of Hope Mills, NC, Michael Zack of Ypsilanti, MI; five grandchildren, Amanda and Andrew Seward, Joseph, Julie and Jennifer Zack; two brothers, J. Philip Susan Zack of Huntsville, OH and Dr. Neil R. Zack of Rio Rancho, NM; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. where Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Monday with Pastor Greg Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Portage South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be forwarded to the Mayo Clinic Pancreatic Cancer Research Program, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN 55905, or the First United Methodist Church of Portage. 343-1508
