STIMSON, Duane Franklin
of Kalamazoo Duane Bud Stimson, after a full life with the love of his family, passed away at age 85. He was born and lived in Kalamazoo all of his life. He is survived by the love of his life Janet, who he was married to for over 57 years. Also surviving him are his children, Judi Stimson and husband Bill Myers of South Haven, Cathy Smith and husband Scott of Fenton, MI, and Tom Stimson and wife Janet of Elmhurst, IL. He has 4 wonderful grandchildren, Stephanie, Adam, Anna, and Sarah. He was the last surviving child of Russ and Edith Stimson, and is survived by the large family of his 5 sibling's, including children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bud was a veteran of WWII where he campaigned throughout Europe with General Patten's army as a medical supply sergeant. After the war Bud opened a fruit market that grew into Town and Country Super Markets. He was a member of the Spartan Stores Board of Directors, and President of the Michigan Food Dealers Association. After retiring at 62, Bud and Janet spent many winters in Phoenix, enjoying sun, golf and socializing in their mobile home community. They moved to Friendship village 5 years ago where Bud enjoyed walking the gardens and participating in the many activities. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, who taught us to live a good life by his example. Visitation is at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, Monday, June 14, 2010, from 6 PM to 8 PM. A memorial mass will be held at St Monica Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 10:30 AM . Burial will be at Fort Custer Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of SW Michigan or Alzheimer's Association in Kalamazoo. Please see
