ARGYRES, Dr. Spyros N.
Kalamazoo Died Thursday morning May 3, 2007 at home after a lengthy illness. Spyros was born in Lefkas, Greece on January 13, 1931, the son of Nicholas and Georgia Argyres. Spyros attended medical school at the University of Athens, and completed his medical training at Quincy City Hospital in Quincy, MA; Worcester City Hospital in Worcester, MA; and Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He completed a fellowship in hypertension at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he worked for several years at the Veterans Administration Hospital. There he met and worked with Myrna Boe, RN, MPH in the dialysis unit. They married March 31, 1973. Spyros entered private and hospital practice at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo in 1975, where he was also the inaugural director of the Bronson Hospital Dialysis Unit. He practiced medicine in the Kalamazoo Area for 25 years. Spyros is survived by his devoted wife Myrna Argyres, his daughters Elsa and Nichole Argyres, his son-in-law David Gordon, his brother and sister-in-law Petros and Nita Argyres, his sister Titika Soldatou, his sister and brother-in-law Loukia Argyres and Stathis Kavvadas, his brother Ernestos Argyres, and many nieces and nephews. The family welcomes all friends and family to an open house on Tuesday, May 8 from 1pm to 7pm at their home, 5122 Whippoorwill Drive, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. In accordance to Spyros?s wishes cremation has taken place. Donations in honor of Spyros may be made to the Mayo Clinic Dept. of Development Mayo Clinic, 200 First Street, SW, Rochester, MN, 55905-9817, with a notation that the donation be directed toward the research of multiple myeloma and amyloidosis in memory of Spyros Argyres or to the West Michigan Cancer Center.
