ZULAUF, Dr. Marvin H.
Portage, Michigan Passed away Sunday, December 14 in Naples, FL. Marv was born June 28, 1921 in Detroit and was raised by his mother and step-father, Lydia Alma Neumann and Alfred Nels Christensen. Marv served his country for 14 years in the United States Army, where he earned the rank of Major. While stationed in Japan, Dr. Zulauf was decorated by the Japanese government for saving a Nissan plant that had caught on fire. Marv spent most of his life in Birmingham, working for the Detroit Public School System at Greenfield Park School as a Principal, before moving to Portage in 2000. He was a devoted member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church, where he wrote and taught Bible Studies. Marv was also an avid stamp collector, gathering sheets of stamps from many areas. Marv was preceded in death by his mother and step father; his wife, Doris; and his daughter, Dr. Gayle Zulauf. Marv is survived by his companion, Jewel Wyman of FL; his son, Mark Debra Zulauf of Portage; 3 grandchildren, Eric, Kyle and Nicholas Zulauf; and a brother, Earl Zulauf of Portage. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 10:00 AM in the Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 9420 Portage Rd. with Pastor Joan Herbon officiating. Interment will take place on Monday, December 22, at 11:00 AM in Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, MI. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Memorial contributions may be directed to Lord of Life Lutheran Church Youth Ministries.
