Douglas DeWayne VanDyke

Douglas DeWayne VanDyke, 87, when home to be with the Lord on December 12, 2019. He was born July 21, 1932 in Kalamazoo, MI a son of William and Alice (DeYoung) VanDyke and had been a lifelong area resident. Douglas served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954, returned to Portage and worked for The Upjohn Company for 34 years before retiring. He was a member of Texas Corners Bible Church. On August 8, 1955, Douglas married the former Sue Ellinger who preceded him in death on November 24, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William VanDyke, Jr. Surviving are three children, Sherri (Ernest) Noel, Julie Kalis and Kevin (Rebecca) VanDyke; three grandchildren, Jason (Gretchen) VanDyke, Ashlee (Chase) Mielke and Katelyn (Phillip) Kinkema; three great-grandchildren, Anthony, Maddox and Steven Douglas; a brother, Norman (JoAnn) VanDyke; a sister-in-law, Joy VanDyke; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 19th at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 411 E Centre Ave, Portage, MI 49002. Private graveside services will be held in Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. Memorials may be directed to Texas Corners Bible Church or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
