ROBERTS, Douglas M.
of Lawton Passed away July 28, 2012 at his residence. Doug was born July 24, 1969, in Kalamazoo the son of Douglas and Vicky Troyer Roberts. He was a graduate of Portage Central High School where he was GK All-Star in football in 1987 and 1988; and was First Team All-State in 1988. Doug was an avid sportsman, outdoorsman and "Trophy Hunter". He enjoyed softball, golf, racing and football. He was employed as an Iron Worker for several years in the family business, Roberts Steel Erection Inc. Doug was known by his family and friends as being an honorable, compassionate, patient and caring man with a heart of gold; always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Doug was known and will always be remembered as the "Gentle Giant". On May 12, 2006 he was united in marriage to his loving wife Martha Mooney, who survives. Also surviving are his son Jacob Roberts; parents, Doug and Vicky Roberts; sister, Mary Ann and her husband Mike Hoffmann; grandmother, Elizabeth Troyer, mother-in-law, Mary Mooney and family residing in Rochester, New York, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Doug is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lyle and Mary Roberts and grandfather, Richard Troyer. A private family interment will be held at the Schoolcraft Cemetery. A memorial service to celebrate Doug's life will be held Wednesday, August 1st, 11:00 o'clock at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street, with Pastor Jim Dyke officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Autism Society of Kalamazoo or the West Michigan Cancer Center.
