FORD, Mr. Douglas L.
of Pine Lake, Michigan Died Sunday evening July 21, 2013 in his daughter and grandsons' home in Mendon after a 2 1/2 year walk with cancer. Doug was born August 25, 1939 in Prairieville, Michigan a son of Robert and Dorothy Miller Ford. Years ago, he served Honorably with the U.S. Navy. He had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with Approved Fire Protection Company of Kalamazoo for 42 years before retiring. Doug was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon L. Ford on March 16, 2012; and a brother, Sidney Ford. He is survived by 2 children, Jeffrey R. Ford of Kalamazoo and Robin J. Burpee of Mendon, MI; 4 grandchildren, Tom, Seth, Jesse Grace and Cole; 2 brothers, Charles "Bill" Ford of Praireville and Eugene Lois Ford of San Diego, CA; and lots of loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Anatomical Studies donation to the University of Michigan has taken place. Doug will be remembered as a kind and gentle man, who used the word "work" as just something to do to pass the time of day. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to Three Rivers Health Hospice or his daughter has asked you to plant something, in a garden of choice, as a living remembrance of something he held dear from childhood throughout his entire life. If something could be grown, Doug would have planted it. Those who knew him well will remember him as a teacher in all aspects of life and having a passion for all things living. Arrangements were made by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St.
