Dorothy May Russell

RUSSELL, Dorothy May Of Portage Passed away Saturday evening, March 3, 2007. Dorothy was born May 6, 1917 in Syracuse, New York, the daughter of Cora and Floyd Cole. Music was very important to Dorothy and in the 1930?s she was a singer at night clubs and on radio in the Battle Creek area. On January 14, 1939, she was united in marriage to Versile M. Russell who preceded her in death on June 9, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Bruce Martin and a granddaughter, Carla Fluty. Surviving are her son and daughter, Kenneth Beth Russell and Shirley Bill Pio all of Portage; 4 grandchildren, Dawn Pio Harry Ward, Billy Estrela Pio, Scott Wendy Pio, Kelly Menikin; 9 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Graveside Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday in Mausoleum Chapel of Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.
