MENINGA, Dorothy A.
Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Dorothy went home to be with her Lord, Saturday morning, April 26, 2008. She was born June 25, 1918, in Greenland, Michigan, the daughter of George and Agnes Smith. Dorothy was a graduate of Bronson School of Nursing and was employed for over 40 years with Bronson Methodist Hospital, retiring in 1980. She was a longtime member of the Parchment United Methodist Church. Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She was well-known for her creativity and numerous projects to include doll-making and the writing of poetry. On August 20, 1940, she was united in marriage to John T. Meninga who preceded her in death on March 16, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jim Meninga on March 12, 2000. Surviving are her son and daughter, John D. Barbara Meninga of Kalamazoo and Doris Brad Kibby of Allegan; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; former daughter-in-law, Donna Meninga. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. A service to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Parchment United Methodist Church 225 Glendale Blvd with Pastor Dan Minor officiating. Interment will follow in West Cooper Cemetery. Memorials in Dorothy's memory may be directed to the Parchment United Methodist Church.
