KUIVENHOVEN, Dorothy Jane
of Kalamazoo Passed away Thursday morning, November 17, 2011. Dorothy was born December 26, 1931, in Kalamazoo the daughter of the late Henry and Grace Osterman Peterson and had been a lifelong resident in the Kalamazoo area. She worked in various capacities at A & P Grocery for 12 years. Dorothy was a baseball fanatic and enjoyed watching any baseball game, but most of all was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Above anything, Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On June 5, 1954, she was united in marriage to her loving husband, Peter Kuivenhoven, who survives. Also surviving are her children, Steven Kuivenhoven, Susan Mitchell, Lisa Allen Ruthruff; grandchildren, David, Anna, Kristen, Kevin, Steven, and Amanda Kuivenhoven, Kimberly and Joshua Russell, Travis Katrina Mitchell, Chad Bobbi Mitchell, and Amy Mitchell; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, David Kuivenhoven; a grandson, Samuel Kuivenhoven; and a brother, Jim Peterson. Services will be held at 2:30pm Monday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Friends may meet the family Monday from 1:00 until the time of service at the chapel. Interment will be at 2:30 Tuesday in Ft. Custer National Cemetery meet in assembly area at 2:15. Memorials may be directed to the family to help with medical expenses.
