HOEKSTRA, Dorothy Elaine
of Kalamazoo Dorothy passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 17, 2011. She was born on November 27, 1928 to Harry and Hazel Bourdo Blauvelt in Orangeville, MI, and was a graduate of Delton High School. On November 5, 1948, Dorothy married Donald Hoekstra in Plainwell, MI. They were charter members of Westwood Christian Reformed Church. After raising three boys, she worked in the cafeteria at old Central High School for many years. Don and Dorothy loved to travel with their boys on vacations and with the Kiwanis Club. They also enjoyed going to the Bahamas in the winter, and summers in South Haven and Gun Lake. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Donald; son, Lynn; and brothers, Cecil Morse, Ray Morse, Kenny Blauvelt, and Clyde Blauvelt. Surviving are 2 sons, Larry Hoekstra and David Ginny Hoekstra; daughter-in-law, Joan Hoekstra; 6 grandchildren, Keren Adam Brinks, Jeff Heather Hoekstra, Todd Karen Hoekstra, Abby Luke Steele, Katy Aaron Furman, Steve Sara Downey Hoekstra; 13 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Alice Boyce of Shelbyville; 1 brother, Bud Blauvelt of Marshall; and numerous nieces and nephews. Private family entombment will be on Monday afternoon in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM on Monday tomorrow at Westwood Christian Reformed Church, 620 Northampton Rd., with Pastor Bill Fernhout officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday today from 2-5 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be directed to Park Village Pines or Westwood Christian Reformed Church.
