Dorothy "Dee" Fancher (née Houser), aged 72, passed away on July 7, 2024, in Indianapolis, IN. Born on July 20, 1951, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, she was the beloved wife of the late Roland Fancher and daughter of the late Martha and Stanley Houser.
Dorothy graduated from Arthur Hill High School and furthered her education at Olivet College. She dedicated her career to education, initially serving as a kindergarten teacher and later as a reading instructor at Alpena Community College. Eventually she took on the role of Assistant Director of Disabled Student Services at Western Michigan University. Her commitment to supporting and empowering students left an indelible mark on many lives.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Dorothy had a passion for traveling, particularly enjoying trips to Barbados and various cruises. She also had a creative side, engaging in arts and crafts, with a special fondness for cardmaking, often accompanied by her sisters.
She is survived by her son, David "Dave" Fancher; daughter-in-law, Esther Fancher; granddaughter, Nadia Fancher; and sisters, Harriet "Honey" Wuepper, Katharine "Kitty" Lieberman, and Marjorie "Molly" Seekamp.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dorothy's memory can be made to the American Cancer Society. She will be remembered as a loving family member, a devoted educator, and a creative spirit who brought joy to those around her. Her legacy of kindness and dedication will continue to inspire those who knew her.
A Memorial service will be held in Dorothy’s honor at 2pm on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 247 W Lovell Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49007.
