DELGER, Mrs. Dorothy D.
Kalamazoo, MI Our Beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother went to heaven to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ Sunday morning June 12, 2011. Dorothy Delger was born on June 2, 1926 in Kalamazoo to Dena and Dewey VanderMeer. She was married to Bennie Delger on March 23, 1945 at the First Christian Reformed Church and was blessed with 61 years of marriage until Bennie's death in 2006. Dorothy worked at Kalamazoo Stationary Company, Wolthuis Greenhouses in Vicksburg, and cared for many children in her home. Dorothy was a member of the Westwood Christian Reformed Church and enjoyed Ladies Society, Child care ministries and Bible Studies. She had a special love for children and was often found playing games with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was affectionately called 'Play Grandma." Her happy, positive attitude and great love of her family was evident in abundance throughout her life and was an encouragement and inspiration to all. She was a wonderful testimony of Christ's love in action. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Garrett, John, Marinus, William, and Dewey, Jr.; a brother-in-law, Fred Dillon; 2 sisters-in-law, Nellie and Louise; and a daughter-in-law, Louise Delger. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Joan & Joe Odehnal of Kalamazoo, Richard & Cherie Delger of Lehigh Acres, FL, Bonnie & Duane Harback of Three Rivers, and Sue & Brian Pennings of Plainwell; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; a sister, Marie Dillon; and 3 sisters-in-law, Julie, Jane, and Marian; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11 o'clock Friday at the Westwood Christian Reformed Church, 620 North Hampton Rd. Visitation will be 5-8pm Thursday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Private interment will be in Grand Prairie Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the West Michigan Cancer Center, Visiting Nurse Association Hospice Program, or Westwood Christian Reformed Church.
