BONNEMA, Dorothy Jean
Portage Rejoined her Lord and Savior on September 6, 2012. She was born January 25, 1936 in Kalamazoo, a daughter of Henry and Jeanette Mein Nieboer and was a lifelong resident of the area. Dorothy was a graduate of the State High School and attended Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church, where she participated in table decorating for special events at the church. On April 1, 1955 she married Donald Bonnema, who preceded her in death on July 3, 2009. She was also preceded by her parents, a brother, Maynard Nieboer and a sister, Ellie. She lived a full life that included church and family. She will be remembered for her gift of hospitality, taking care of her children and grandchildren and planning family trips to the Traverse City and Interlochen areas. She loved color tours to northern Michigan, House of Flavors ice cream and was even known to go bear hunting in her high heels. She celebrated every season and holiday, with special decorating. Dorothy is survived by her children, Daniel Kathy Bonnema of Kalamazoo, Douglas Sally Bonnema of Climax and Diane Scott Zurawski of Plainwell; grandchildren, Rachel Tyson Dubnicka, Sarah, Sandy and Bill Bonnema; great grandsons, Josh and Ryan; three brothers, Tony Irene Nieboer, Arnie Nieboer and Roger Nieboer. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 PM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or Senior Services.
