BAAS, Dorothy Of Kalamazoo Dorothy was born December 17, 1918, in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Dirk and Mary Tigchon Bloem and passed away October 7, 2010, in Kalamazoo. She was married for 40 years to Henry Baas who preceded her in death in 1979. Also preceding her in death was a stillborn infant daughter, Donna Jean; a sister, Harriet Baas and 2 brothers, Richard and Robert Bloem. Surviving are her children, Mary Ann Jim Harkema of Okemos, John Vicki Baas of Mattawan and Doreen Dennis Nykamp of Portage; grandchildren, Doug Jodi Harkema, Dawn Tom Wierenga, David Laura Harkema, Jeff Melissa Baas, Kim Doug Takens, Emily Rivera, Jon Lyssa Nykamp; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Hannah Casemier; a brother, Jack Dora Bloem; sister-in-laws, Betty Bloem, Diane Bloem, Bernice Howard Shoemaker; a brother-in-law, Marv Pauline Reinink; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy taught her children to love Jesus. She had a passion for scripture study and actively served in her church. She excelled in cooking, in generosity, and in love for her family. She faithfully supported the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission and Love INC. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM on Sunday October 17 at Fourth Reformed Church 6339 Atlantic where a Memorial Service will be held beginning at 2:00 PM with Rev. R. Camp officiating. A private interment was held in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Memorials in Dorothy's memory may be directed to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
