MADISON, Dorothea E.
Of Portage Dorothea Estella Madison went to be with the Lord after a brief illness on January 5, 2008 at Bronson Hospital. She was born on February 28, 1931 to Howard and Pearl Prolo McClish who preceded her in death. She was the 3rd of ten siblings. Dorothea was raised in the Doster, Plainwell area and moved to Portage in 1951. She married her true love, Herman N. Madison, on May 31, 1950. Dorothea was actively involved with the Boy and Girl Scouts of America as a Den mother and Brownie leader. She worked at Millwork Supply and eventually retired from the Upjohn Company. Herm and Dorothea joined Southridge Reformed Church in 1982 and were very active with the Koinonia group. They truly loved their church friends and were involved with many church activities. Throughout life, Herm and Dorothea built a fantastic relationship with a group called ?The Camping Gang? and enjoyed traveling throughout the country. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake and decorate cakes for special events. She was an avid supporter of all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren?s endeavors in extracurricular activities. Dorothea provided her husband with devoted and loving care during his battle with Alzheimer?s disease. Dorothea is survived by her three children, Jacqueline Thomas Tweedy, Herman Jr. Carol Madison, and James Allen Patricia Madison. She has 8 grandchildren, Sheri and Fred Taylor, Mark and Sara Tweedy, Ben and Jessi Tweedy, Katherine, Elizabeth, and Rebecca Madison, and Joshua and Sergey Sam Madison. She also has 5 great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Jacob and Halee Taylor and Jackson and Taylor Tweedy. Surviving are her siblings Jack, Gaylon, Owen Dean, Jerry, India Fran Grimm and special ?sister? Ida Madison. A service to celebrate Dorothea?s life will be held 1:00 o?clock Wednesday at Southridge Reformed Church, 6726 Texas Dr., with Pastors Mark Vanderson and Becky Ringler officiating. Friends may meet the family Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre. Private family burial will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Southridge Reformed Church or the West Michigan Cancer Center. The family wishes to thank the staff of Bronson Methodist Hospital MICU, along with Dr. Vermuri and the staff of the West Michigan Cancer Center for their unprecedented care and compassion.
