COURTNEY, Doris M. Of Kalamazoo Passed away Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Bronson Hospital. Doris was born December 11, 1926 in Ironton, Ohio, the daughter of Wiley and Louise Brand Goodner. She was a Kalamazoo area resident since 1934 and a graduate of Plainwell High School. On December 16, 1944 she was united in marriage to Milford M. Courtney. Doris retired in 1985 following 34 years of employment in marketing with the Paper Chemicals Division of Hercules, Incorporated in Parchment. She spent most of her life in Plainwell, Parchment and Kalamazoo, except for 15 years in Florida. While in Florida, she volunteered for the Council on Aging and became an avid bowler. After returning to Kalamazoo, she became a volunteer for Hospice of Greater Kalamazoo, concentrating her efforts on Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Milford in 1975; her son, Stephen Courtney in 2001 and by three brothers, Cary, Marshall and Winston Goodner. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bernard Potts of Kalamazoo; daughter-in-law, Gloria Courtney of Menominee, MI; former daughter-in-law, Norma Conrad Courtney of Cheyenne, WY; four grandchildren, Sheri Justin Taylor of Cheyenne, WY, Craig Lisa Courtney of Saline, MI, Derek Kathleen Parent Potts of Glendale, CA, Kristi Potts of Kalamazoo; three step grandchildren, Becky, Chad and Marc Laurent all of Menominee; five great-grandchildren, Jacob Potts of Kalamazoo, Ryan and Sean Courtney of Saline, MI, Sydney and Liam Taylor of Cheyenne, WY; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2007 in the Chapel of Third Reformed Church 2345 North 10th Street with Rev. Dar VanderWal officiating. Following services the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall. A private family committal will be held in East Cooper Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Doris? memory may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, Rose Arbor Hospice Residence; or a charity of your choice.
