Kalamazoo, MI Died Friday afternoon December 17, 2009. Donna was born August 10, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa and was adopted by Bill and Bernice Smith. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident since 1958, coming from Lake City, MN. Donna was employed as an LPN for 45 years before retiring. She later worked as a floral merchandiser for Masterpiece and Elzinga Greenhouses. She was also very involved in local animal rescue programs. Donna was preceded in death by her adopted parents; her first husband, Leslie Reed in 2008; her second husband, Homer VerSluis; and 2 brothers, Donald and Clyde. She is survived by 2 children, Jeffrey Kathleen Smith of Charlotte, NC and Judy Reed of Kalamazoo; 3 grandchildren, Morgen Smith of North Carolina, and Troy and Cody VerSluis both of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11 o'clock Tuesday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8pm Monday.
