Donna Mae Penning

Donna Mae Penning, age 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 10, 2025. She was born May 20, 1938, in Kalamazoo to the late Donald and Mina (Broekema) Pastoor.

Donna graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School and went on to nursing school to obtain her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She dedicated herself to her nursing career and caring for others, raising her children, and was especially devoted to God. Donna grew up in the Christian Reformed Church and most recently attended Heritage CRC. She prayed for others every day, served as a volunteer at church, and encouraged her family to follow the teachings of Christ.

Donna loved visiting the beach with her friends and was an avid fan of the University of Michigan, especially football. She played piano and was a talented soloist involved in numerous choirs.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frederick Penning; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce (Henry) Gjeltema; infant son, Thomas Penning; and many cousins. 

She is survived by her children, Gary (Sally) Penning, Carol (David) Morgan, Timothy (Lauri) Penning, and Christopher (Dawn) Penning; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; very close cousins, Greta Rey and Ruth Fletcher; as well as nieces, nephews, and many close friends.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, February 16 at 4:00pm at Heritage Christian Reformed Church, 2857 S 11th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Friends may visit with family from 3-4:00pm prior to the service. Private interment will take place at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South.
