Donna V McCoy

Donna Vee McCoy, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Donna lost her husband, Jack McCoy, on Friday, March 8, 2019. She was born on July 31, 1936, in the majestic Smokey Mountains of western North Carolina to the late Reginald and Stella (Owen) Kitchen.

Donna graduated high school in June of 1955. Later that year, on December 18, she married the love of her life, Jack McCoy. In 1960, Jack and Donna moved with their two young daughters to Kalamazoo. After three short years, in 1963, she gave birth to her last child, a boy. Donna’s family meant everything to her.

Donna enjoyed planting flowers, and feeding and watching birds and other small wildlife. Her husband, Jack, would build bird houses for her that she would paint; then, she would watch as the birds would come to live in them.

At an early age, Donna learned to embroider and became very good at it. She also enjoyed other hobbies, such as quilting, which she did with her mother, candle making, potholder weaving, canning the vegetables grown by Jack, caring for house plants, winter bowling, and summer bargain hunting at the many yard sales in southwestern Michigan.

After Jack retired, he and Donna became snowbirds, traveling to warmer climates away from the harsh Michigan winters. California, where their oldest daughter lived, was a favorite, followed by Nevada, Florida, and other locations in the south.

Donna leaves behind three children, Wanda (Darren) Burgdorf, Renee McCoy, and Mark (Teri) McCoy; six grandchildren, Eli McClain, Jake McClain, CJ Saxton, Travis Saxton, Alyssa McCoy, and Alex McCoy. She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren: four girls and eight boys.
