HECKER, Donna M.
Of Kalamazoo Donna was born December 9, 1928, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Jacob and Nell Boodt Legerstee and went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 11, 2010. She was a lifelong area resident, who received her Bachelors degree from Kalamazoo College and her Masters degree from Western Michigan University. For over 25 years she was an English teacher with the Kalamazoo Public Schools and was a member of the Michigan Education Association. Donna was a member of First Reformed Church and currently a member of Second Reformed Church. On April 4, 1953, she was united in marriage to Louis Hecker who survives. Also surviving are four children, Kent Terri Hecker of Portage, Nancy Chris Hansen of Hudsonville, Jayne Craig VanderMolen of Portage and Linda Scott Stuifbergen of Essexville; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Stephen and Matthew Hecker, Nathan and Geoffrey Hansen, Leslie and Jacob Stuifbergen; a sister, Norma Tom Veld of Kalamazoo. A service to celebrate Donna's life will be held 11:00 AM Monday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street with Rev. Kevin Hart officiating. A private interment will be held in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 PM at the Westside Chapel and on Monday from 10:30-11:00 AM.
