Donna Jean Donovan

DONOVAN, Donna Jean Kalamazoo Passed away peacefully February 6, 2007 at Bronson Hospital following her battle with ALS, better known as ''Lou Gehrig's Disease''. Donna was born June 27, 1929 in Kalamazoo, MI, the daughter of John and Gladys Burchett Modderman, Jr. She graduated from Nazareth Academy and attended both K.V.C.C. and W.M.U. Donna had a varied employment career including working for the Harris Hotel, Gibson Guitar Company, the Ferris and Knapp Glass Company, and the Park Club. She was employed for several years at both Checker Motors and her most recent employer, the W. E. Upjohn Institute as a receptionist and accounts payable accountant. While Donna valued her quiet, modest, and solitary lifestyle, Donna?s enjoyments in life included reading, cooking, needlepoint, riding her bicycle, and pet sitting for others. She was a fanatical Jeff Gordon supporter and avid NASCAR enthusiast. She also enjoyed an occasional visit to different casinos for entertainment, and experienced a fair amount of luck at them . She was community minded in her involvement as a past supervisor of a bingo game to raise funds for a private school; assisting the treasurer and being involved with the campaign for the successful election of a County Probate Judge; working on the Mother?s March of Dimes for 2 years and serving as division co-chairperson on the United Way Campaign for 2 years. Donna is survived by her son George Donovan and wife Mary of Orange, CA and by 3 grandchildren, Sarah, Christopher and Gregory and by a sister Janet Warnke. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 o?clock on Monday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with the Rev. James Dyke officiating. Friends may meet the family beginning at 2:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
