YAX, Donald L.
of Schoolcraft Died on July 31, 2010 at the home of his son, Terry Yax in Lawton. Don was born November 1, 1927 in Kalamazoo, a son of Lambert and Pearl Pearson Yax and had lived most of his life in Schoolcraft. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Prior to his retirement, Don worked for 27 years as an automotive technician for Russ Binau Ford Dealership in Three Rivers and later worked as a certified machinist for Barmo Metal Crafters. He enjoyed racing midget cars and later stock cars around the country. He was a member of NASCAR and served as secretary/treasurer of Superior Auto Racing Association. On April 7, 1948, Don was married to Barbara Taft, who preceded him in death on March 16, 2010. Surviving are 5 children, Larry A. Cherie Yax of Portage, Patty Jack Noel of Kalamazoo, Patsy Larry Aldrich of Schoolcraft, Donald L. Shelley Yax of Marcellus and Terry A. Laura Yax of Lawton; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a brother Robert Eloise Yax of Pass Christian, MS; many special nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, August 6 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. with Pastor Don Filcek officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 am until the time of service. Interment with military honors will follow at Schoolcraft Cemetery.
