WHITE, Donald V. Portage The final chapter in Don?s life story ended Monday, August 20, 2007. His history started on February 6, 1920 in Niles, the son of Joseph and Opal Sampson White. After graduating from Galesburg High School in 1938, Don served his country in the Army Air Force, where he attained the rank of Master Sergeant. On March 2, 1946 he married the former Anne Jancasz, who survives. Don had been employed by the Upjohn Company for 39 years, retiring in 1985. He was a State Sports Official for basketball, baseball and football, and had coached Little League. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church, where he started the Boy Scout Troop. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Jim White, in 2001. In addition to his wife of 61 years, Don is survived by his daughters, Donnie Anne Don Schweiger of Tucson, AZ and Kathy Richard Aldrich of Kalamazoo; 6 grandchildren, Zachary and Colin Schweiger of San Diego, CA, Ben Alissa Aldrich of Kalamazoo, Sarah White of Owings Mill, MD, Justine Dave Bentz and Vince Tina Aldrich all of Battle Creek; 7 great grandchildren. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel 3926 S. 9th Street on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A memorial committal service will take place on Friday at 2:30 PM at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Those desiring to attend the committal service are asked to meet in the assembly area by 2:20 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Great Lakes Hunting and Fishing Dreams, 909 Ralston Rd., Colon, MI 49040, or the family. A special thank you to our friends and neighbors, Dr. Gilbert Olivares and staff, and the Bronson Hospital 4th floor cardiology staff for all their care and concern.
