of Kalamazoo Passed away October 30, 2010 at Tendercare Westwood. He was born August 12, 1923 in Kalamazoo, to the late Abraham and Anna Haan Vander Weele. Donald was united in marriage to Gertrude Beeke on August 23, 1942, who preceded him in death in 2008. Among Donald's interests were, reading, baseball, playing cards and travelling, especially to Puerto Rico, where he made 13 separate trips for missionary work. He also drove school bus and played trumpet in the Salvation Army Band. Surviving Donald are his children, Dennis Christine Vander Weele of Caldwell, NJ, Donald Vander Weele of Manistee, MI, Larry Patricia Vander Weele of Kalamazoo and Mark Kim Vander Weele of Kalamazoo; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sister, Dorothy Yeo; sister-in-law, Mary Vander Weele; brother-in-law, Peter Dorothy Beeke; and many nieces and nephews. Also preceding Donald in death was a brother, Robert Vander Weele. Family will greet friends Thursday from 11:30 - 12:30 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, where the Memorial service will take place at 12:30. Pastor Greg Wood will officiate services. Burial will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 2:00 with military honors.
