Portage Passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013. Don was born July 9, 1931 in Beverly, MA, the son of George and Sarah Slater Chase and lived in the Kalamazoo area for many years. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed by General Motors for 28 years and loved woodworking, jigsaw puzzles and building model cars. On August 7, 1950, he married Wanda Spitzner, who preceded him in death on November 21, 2010. He was also preceded by his parents, two brothers and one sister. Don is survived by his children, Cheryl Doug Leversee of Kalamazoo, Donald Chase, Jr., of Climax, Judith Bob Farnham of Climax, Laura David Soderquist of Galesburg and Michael Laura Chase of Portage; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Gould of MA; nieces and nephews. A Committal Service will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery, South, with Pastor James Dyke officiating. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave., on Wednesday from 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
