Of Mattawan Passed away Monday evening, October 22, 2012 at his residence. Don was born June 20, 1949 in Kalamazoo, MI the son of William and Dorothy Hall Meier. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart in 1968. Don worked for 27 years as a press operator at Tower Automotive. He loved spending time with his family, golfing, bowling and especially loved being a pit crew chief of family owned drag cars. On August 12, 1978 he was united in marriage to his loving wife, Paula, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Michelle Chris Russell, Matthew Meier, Jenna Meier, Billy Meier; 12 grandchildren, Shaina, Kaila, Stevie, Chelsi, Alex, Ashley, Chase, Sonny, Devon, Benjamin, Sophie, Elizabeth; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Bill Linda Meier, Jim Meier, Joe Jenny Meier; and several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Evans. A gathering for family and friends will be held Thursday from 5-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 Friday at Ft. Custer National Cemetery meet in assembly area at 11:50. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cpl Christopher Kelly Willis Foundation.
