HYBELS, Donald Harry
Of Kalamazoo, MI Don passed away Thursday evening, May 7, 2009 at Friendship Village. He was born January 4, 1920 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Harry and Nellie Clement Hybels. Don was veteran of the United States Army Air Corps serving as a B-29 gunner during World War II. He was a charter member of Greenwood Reformed Church. Don was a former member of Local 131 IBEW and life member of the NRA. He worked as a Master Electrician and owner of Hybels Electric for over 50 years. On August 29, 1941, he was united in marriage to Margaret Hegedus Hybels who survives. Also surviving are their 2 children, Dr. Roger Judy Hybels of Gloucester, MA and Cheryl Hatfield of Kalamazoo; 4 grandchildren, Cynthia Erik Johnson of Millersville, MD, David Caroline Hybels of Marblehead MA, Lynn Hatfield of Hastings and Carrie Hatfield of Kalamazoo; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Elaine Frank Spitters of Richland; 2 sisters-in-law, Marjory Hybels of Vermont and Lois Slaughter of Kalamazoo; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; and 1 brother, Robert Hybels. Memorial services for Don will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at Greenwood Reformed Church, 1815 Winton Ave., with Rev. Jonathan Loper officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the church. Private entombment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
