HOY, Donald F.
Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Don died February 19, 2009 at the Springs at Bronson Place in Kalamazoo. Don was born October 29, 1925 in Ionia, MI, the son of Reubey S. and Mable Jenks Hoy. He married Mary Ann Schrauben in Ionia on September 13, 1947. Don served with the United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II and was among the first group of Navy personnel to land in Japan after the surrender. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked for Consumers Power Company and spent the rest of his career with Wolohan Lumber. Don loved the outdoors, fishing, caring for his home and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; 3 daughters, Jane Rocky Renkes of Cambridge, WI, Sally Zussman of North Easton, MA, and Nancy Robin Nott of Augusta, MI; 1 son James Hoy of Bay City, MI; 6 grandchildren, Marc Amy Renkes, Matthew, Nicholas and Rachel Zussman, Sarah and Emily Nott; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Alice Lampman and Meriline Hemingsen; and son-in-law, Peter Zussman. Memorial services for Don will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of services at the funeral home.
