HILBERT, Donald M.
Of Kalamazoo Don was born December 12, 1919, in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Donald and Minerva Leonard Hilbert. Don passed away March 30, 2010, in Kalamazoo. During WW II he served in the U.S. Army for four years and later became a member of the Marcellus VFW Post #4054. For over 30 years prior to his retirement he was employed with Eaton Corporation where he was a UAW member and union steward. On May 14, 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Dorothy L. Goff, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Linda Hilbert Ted Chalus of Lawrence, Gail Esman of Otsego, Kathy Pyke and Donald L. Hilbert both of Kalamazoo; six grandchildren, Todd Wendy French, Melissa Brandon Torres, Paul Melani Esman, Heather Bryan Lloyd, Ashley and Cody Argetsinger and nine great-grandchildren. Preceding Don in death was a sister and brother, Lila Wheeler and Harold Hilbert, and a grandson, Jason Presti. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4-6 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street, where a service to celebrate Don's life will be held 11:00 AM Monday with Pastor Ron Vestrand officiating. Interment with military honors will be in West Oshtemo Cemetery. Memorials in Don's memory may be directed to Pinnacle Senior Care or Marcellus VFW Post #4054.
