HAGADONE, Donald G.
Climax Donald G. Hagadone passed away on Tuesday, July 20th with his family by his side. He was a life long resident of Kalamazoo, attending Milwood Elementary, Kalamazoo Central High School and WMU. He enlisted in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was employed at National Water Lift, Ronningen-Petter and later became president of the Hagadone Company. The Hagadone Company sold equipment to the pulp, paper, chemical and food industry for thirty plus years. He was an avid outdoors man and made frequent annual hunting trips out west, for elk, mule deer, moose and antelope. He also enjoyed hunting on his property as well as hunting in upper Michigan with his family. He had a Christmas tree farm for many years on his property in Climax, Michigan. In addition he enjoyed golfing, traveling and especially his yearly trip to Las Vegas where he recently celebrated his 80th birthday on the 4th of July. His favorite place for lunch was to dine at the Beacon Club in Kalamazoo. He is survived by his wife, Harriet Gerlofs Hagadone of nearly 60 years and their beloved yellow lab Molly. Also surviving is his son, Harold Gene Hagadone, daughter in law, Mardelle May Hagadone of Climax Michigan. His daughter Jeanne' Gates, and son in law, Greg Nowak of Gull Lake. His two grandsons Chris Gates of Kalamazoo and Evan Gates of Newport Beach, CA. and his brother Judson Hagadone and his wife Claudean Hagadone of Kalamazoo. He was preceded in death by his parents Edson Hagadone and Mary Pleyte Hagadone. Visitation will be held at 2pm on Friday, July 23rd and will be followed by a brief memorial service at 3pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. The family wishes to thank doctors; Bailey, Lawlor and Blix as well as special thanks to their staffs for there recent care. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations be made to the National Rifle Association or to the family for the Donald Hagadone Memorial Athletic Scholarship at Portage Central High School; to be given annually by his grandson Chris Gates.
