Portage Donald Bronson Reed passed away October 31, 2007 in Kalamazoo. Donald was born March 6, 1916 in Dowagiac, MI to Jay and Hattie Reed. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central HS in 1934, where he was drum major in the marching band. Donald was a WW II veteran of the Army Air Corps, stationed in England. Following the war, Donald worked at the Kalamazoo Stationary Company. He later worked for the Upjohn Company, where he retired after 30 years of service. Donald was a craftsman who enjoyed woodworking and creating stained glass art, most of which he generously gave to his community and loved ones. An example of Donald?s work can be seen at the Kalamazoo Wings Stadium. Donald was known for his clever sense of humor, which was enjoyed by everyone who knew him. Donald was preceded in death by Dorothy Jean Elsbey Reed, his wife of 62 years, and his two sisters, Doris DeVries and Betty Searles. Surviving Donald are his two children James E. Reed Louanne G. of Battle Creek, MI and Deborah R. Franks Edward G. of Albuquerque, NM; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Donald's nephew Don DeVries and his wife Harriett for their kindness and support during the final months of his life. A private remembrance was held at the Beacon Club to celebrate his life. Donald was interred at Mt. Ever-rest Cemetery.
