STEWART, Dixie Lee
Of Kalamazoo and Naples, FL Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully in the arms of her family on March 4, 2009 in Naples, Florida. She was born April 10, 1937 in Rutherford, TN, the daughter of Lawton and Mary Lou Horne. Dixie met her husband, Billy, on a blind date and they married on April 23, 1957. They had 51 wonderful years together and celebrated life in a way few ever do. She retired from Bronson Methodist Hospital in 1992. Dixie loved life and lived it to the fullest. She always had a positive attitude and a big smile for everyone. She would do anything for you and displayed her love for her family every day. Dixie enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, and going to the beach, but most of all her home in Naples, Florida. She made the world a better place and will leave a lasting legacy for her family and friends. Surviving are her loving husband, Billy Stewart; her 2 daughters, Sonja and Rick VanderVeen and their children, Jamie Lee and Kyle, and Sherry and Doug Bell and their children, Bradley and Brandon; along with her step-mother, Helen Horne. Preceding her in death were her parents; and 2 brothers, Charles Horne and Carlton Horne at birth. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Comstock Chapel, 6121 King Highway, with Pastor Dave Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 3-5 PM and Monday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
